Curriculum - Music

MUSIC
Teacher: Mr. Larry Hamilton

Choral Music I (Grade 4)

Students in this course will learn basic vocal techniques through vocal exercises and ensemble singing.  Repertoire consists of unison and two part arrangements from varying styles of music.  Towards the midpoint of the course, students will be introduced to the very basics of rhythm - to get an idea of what to expect in the 5th grade section.

Choral Music II: Introduction to Music Theory (Grade 5)

In addition to the course description for Grade 4, this section also provides a more advanced look at basic music skills.  The course introduces the 5th graders to note values and rhythmic dictation.  In the second half of the year, students will be introduced to the "key of C" through the "Solfege system".  It challenges their ears and allows them to not only sing, but begin to understand and learn the start of reading music.  Upon completion of this course, students should be ready to start a more in-depth look at Elementary Music Theory - a necessity for anyone studying either vocal or instrumental music.
