VISUAL ART
Teacher: Ms. Katie Yamasaki

Ballet Tech's Visual Art program is deeply committed to both the artistic and academic development of each student.

In the Elementary School, the primary focus is on introducing students to a great variety of art materials and techniques. Students develop art practices in still life drawing, paper mache sculpture, printmaking, sewing, collage, clay, architectural studies, scratch-board, and design. All students keep sketchbooks to deepen their artistic practice.

The Middle School art program further develops the practices begun in elementary years, but in close collaboration with the Science and Humanities programs. Students complete units that combine science, art, language arts, and history to study environmental science, storytelling, the westward expansion, pre-historic human civilization, and other topics.

Middle School students present their studies and projects throughout the school year.  The art program engages a multi-age learning and teaching model -- older students develop teaching and speaking skills while deepening their knowledge by presenting their work to younger students.  Middle School students present their studies and projects throughout the school year. At the end of each year, there is an annual Evening of the Arts, celebrating the artistic achievement and collaborations of all students in the school.

There is great enthusiasm for all arts at Ballet Tech, a school founded on the belief that the arts play an integral role in the development of the child's mind, body, and creative spirit.
