THE BALLET FACULTY
Christine Sarry Director of Faculty, Upper School A founding member and leading dancer in Eliot Feld's original company, American Ballet Company, and the Eliot Feld Ballet, Christine Sarry's performing career spanned 25 years. She danced with the Joffrey Ballet and as a principal ballerina with
American Ballet Theatre. Her performance highlights include two performances at the White House and Variations on America,
a Feld pas de deux created for her and Mikhail Baryshnikov. In addition to working with Mr. Feld, Ms. Sarry has worked with choreographers such as Agnes DeMille, Lar Lubovitch, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp,
and Antony Tudor. She staged ballets
for American Ballet Theatre, Atlanta Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the Stuttgart Ballet. A faculty member of The Ballet Tech School since its
inception, Ms. Sarry assumed the position of Director of Faculty for Ballet
Tech’s School in June 2003.
Patrice Hemsworth Director of Faculty, Lower School A former dancer with Feld Ballets/NY and Chicago City Ballet,
this is Ms. Hemsworth’s first year as Director of Faculty for the Lower School. She is also Ballet Tech’s Ballet Mistress,
and sets ballets and rehearses students for Kids Dance performances. Ms. Hemsworth trained at the School of American Ballet for 12 years.
Elizabeth Barrow Ms. Barrow received her M. Ed. at the University of Georgia and a BA in Education at
the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Later she danced with Garden
State Ballet and Savannah Ballet and served as the ballet mistress of Garden
State Ballet (NJ). In addition to teaching, Ms. Barrow sets ballets and
rehearses students for Kids Dance Performances.
She served as Director of Faculty for Ballet Tech from 1991 until 2003.
Daniel Levans A former leading dancer with Eliot Feld and New York City
Ballet, and principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, Mr. Levans studied
with Richard Thomas, Barbara Fallis, Vincenzo Celli, Vera Nechimnova, Patricia
Wilde, and George Balanchine. He has choreographed ballets for U.S.and
international companies, and has also choreographed and directed musical
theater productions. Mr. Levans joined the Ballet Tech faculty in 1992. In
addition to teaching at Ballet Tech, Mr. Levans has been a guest teacher at The
Juilliard School.
Tammi Shamblin Ms. Shamblin received her BFA from the University of Utah,
where she studied under Bene Arnold and Attila Ficzere and performed with the
Utah Ballet. Relocating to Sacramento,
she danced for Capitol City Ballet and the Sacramento Ballet, choreographed and
presented work, and was the Ballet Director for the Roseville School of Dance
Youth Ballet. Since moving to New
York, she has performed with the New York Dance Theatre
and Christy Walsh.
Laura Careless Ms. Careless was born and raised in the UK and received her
dance education at the Royal Ballet School, London, the Ecole-Atelier Rudra
Bejart in Lausanne, Switzerland, and The Juilliard School, New York City, where
she performed in Mr. Feld’s Sir Isaac’s Apples. She dances professionally with
Company XIV (www.companyxiv.com), a New
York-based dance and theater company working in live
performance and film. Ms. Careless has
taught dance throughout the United
States and joined the Ballet Tech faculty in
the Fall of 2008.
