The Beginner Program

THE BEGINNER PROGRAM

Ballet Tech's Beginner Program provides an introduction to ballet class to approximately 700 New York City elementary school children every year.  Classes introduce students to the fundamentals of ballet, including basic steps, ballet vocabulary, class structure, discipline, and appropriate dance attire (which Ballet Tech provides).

Ballet Tech auditions children in hundreds of elementary schools throughout the city.  At the audition, children are led through a simple series of movements such as plies and releves, seated forward bends, and skipping.  Ballet Tech's selector then determines who has the qualities necessary to begin ballet training.

Last year, Ballet Tech auditioned approximately 31,000 children.  Approximately 600 were selected to participate in the program.  With cooperation from the Department of Education, children are released from their regularly scheduled classes one morning a week for six weeks.  The DOE provides free transportation.

Ballet Tech offers two sessions of the Beginner Program, one in the fall and one in the winter/spring.  All NYC public elementary schools are eligible to participate -- all you have to do is call us to set an audition date.  Students who are selected in fall auditions will participate in the winter /spring program, and students who are selected at spring auditions participate the following fall.

Each year we hope to get as many schools possible involved in giving their students this opportunity, so if you've never worked with us before or it's been a while, give us a call!
